He is actively involved in philanthropic endeavours in Haiti and was appointed goodwill ambassador for Port-Au-Prince in recognition of those efforts. He contributed to building 50 primary and secondary schools in Haiti over the 18 months following the earth quake disaster.

Former President Mary McAleese is a Barrister, Law Professor, a former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Queen's University, Journalist and Academic. She completed her second term as one of the most popular and respected presidents in Irish history and is the worlds first woman to succeed another woman President. She is a member of the Council of Women World Leaders and completed a Doctorate in Canon Law at The Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In addition to many other appointments, in 2019 Dr McAleese was elected Chancellor of Trinity College Dublin.
